Site History
John Knox had to decide where to go. It was too dangerous for him to go home, so he went to England where, by 1549, the Reformation was in full flow after the death of Henry VIII. He obtained a licence to preach and was appointed to the small parish church at Berwick-on-Tweed. The vicar was absent, the curate ignorant, so the people certainly needed him. His two year ministry there was a powerful one, many were converted, many lives were changed. It was an appointment of particular blessing to him as he met his wife Marjory there.
