Footdee (1861)

There was revival in these cottages that were built in 1808, in 1861, 1862, 1869and 1891.

A report written in the 1870s remarked upon how the whole village had become ‘a picture of tidiness such as is seldom to be met with among classes of the population reckoned higher in the social scale … this external order is only the index of a still more important change in the habits and character of our fisher town, the population of which has within the past few years undergone a remarkable change for the better in a moral point of view.’
