Chester Races (1863)

Our open air campaign has commenced in this city at the various fairs, wakes, races and executions, and ready fruit is found to the masters glory. Then I left Manchester for Chester races. On my way I was joined by my fellow labour in the gospel brother Hambleton and brother Moorefield from Kendal. In the morning during the races a prayer meeting was held at 7:00 o'clock to ask the Lord for a blessing on the preaching of the word. During the day we gave out tracts at the various entrances to the course and spoke to many personally. In the evening we held open air meetings, which were well attended and the preaching was done by John Hambleton Mr Moorefield and myself to thousands of people. Many brothers and sisters came to help in the Lords work.
