Gateshead (1876)

There is much open infidelity here among working men, especially among skilled mechanics and they are at all time difficult to reach in Gospel week. The first week during which Mr Johnson was with us, the meetings were comparatively small in number, and results were few. During the week just ended, and especially last night, it has been quite different.

I have, for several years past, taken an active part in Gospel work, and have had experience in after-meetings, and I am very clear that the work of the last week has been solid, and will be lasting. Several who a few days ago were in misery and bondage are not only bright and clear themselves but eager to bring others to the knowledge of the truth. We are looking for much blessing this week and shall have a special meeting for young people, many of whom have been awakened.

"The Christian," March 23rd, 1876.
